Trump attorneys ask for delay in his federal trial, citing 2024 election

Lawyers for former President Donald Trump and longtime Trump aide Walt Nauta asked Judge Aileen Cannon late Monday night to delay setting a trial date for their federal case in Florida.

In a court filing, Trump attorneys argued his trial should not take place as scheduled, and potentially not until after the 2024 presidential election. Trump and Nauta face federal charges related to their handling of sensitive government records after Trump left the White House.

The submission was made after Cannon set a trial date for Aug. 14 that the prosecutors asked to postpone until December. Trump’s legal team argued

Thumbs-up emoji case: Lawyer says judge made right call in awarding farmer $82,000

A Saskatchewan judge made the right call when he ordered a farmer to pay $82,000 after sending a thumbs-up emoji to a contract text message, according to a commercial lawyer.

The dispute was between South West Terminal Ltd. (SWT) and Achter Land & Cattle Ltd. over a flax contract.

SWT argued that a text message with a thumbs-up emoji was understood as an agreement that Achter would deliver flax to SWT.

Like many, commercial attorney Michael Conlon said he was surprised when he first heard about the case.

“When you dig into the facts surrounding the case, which the court

Instead of having each person retain their own lawyer and then fighting it out in court, this process has two people meet with one lawyer together and work out a divorce agreement that works for everyone.

The Democrat previously worked as general counsel to Gov. Jay Inslee, as a litigation partner at a prominent Seattle law firm and — in a less common qualification for the

Remember When Donald Trump Discussed Seizing Voting Machines and Invoking Martial Law? Special Counsel Jack Smith Sure Does

Remember, back in 2020, when Donald Trump held a truly off-the-rails meeting in the Oval Office in which seizing voting machines and invoking martial law were discussed as part of a desperate, unhinged attempt to stay in power? Special counsel Jack Smith apparently does. And he’s asking lots of pointed questions about it as part of his criminal investigation into Trump’s attempt to overturn the 2020 election and the insurrection that followed—which, like Smith’s documents investigation, could result in another federal indictment for the ex-president.

CNN reports that Smith’s team “has signaled a continued interest in a chaotic Oval Office

A Florida plastic surgeon accused of killing a lawyer and dumping his body in the Everglades had a paralyzing drug, a wagon to transport the corpse and a pickup truck with a special license plate flipping device to avoid detection, according to new court filings from prosecutors.

Authorities say Dr. Tomasz Kosowski killed attorney Steven Cozzi in the bathroom of Cozzi’s law office moments after both participated in a March 21 conference call about a lengthy, acrimonious legal battle over medical billing.
